FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 3rd
Love for Love's Sake: Bhakti Flow Master Class
Bhakti is the practice of love and devotion to the god of one's own understanding. Vinyasa Flow links movement to breath. Combine the two, and we create a prayer-filled dance. This vigorous, all-levels class will begin and end with kirtan (chanting), a completely secular practice. Come prepared to challenge yourself and explore the element of play in your practice.
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 4th
Taking Flight: An Intro to Arm Balances
Taking flight requires trust and surrender, and it also requires setting a proper foundation. In this workshop we will explore the Bakasana-family and Koundinyasana-family arm balances that live atop Chaturanga. We will learn correct alignment for healthy and happy shoulders in Chaturanga and all Chaturanga-frame arm balances; develop the skills needed for lift off, and learn to troubleshoot the most common mistakes that keep us from flying; and hone our techniques for more technically proficient, nuanced poses.
This workshop is part lecture and part asana. Not recommended for students with current or chronic shoulder or wrist injuries.
Let's Float: Strengthen the Core, Lighten the Load
In this two-hour asana practice, we build slowly into a practice focused on building core strength and learning the basics of 'floating'. We will develop techniques to access all compartments of core, moving beyond our limited notion of core as what we think of when we think bikini season, and will bring awareness to mula and uddiyana bandhas. We will then apply these skills to build towards floating into Chaturanga and to the top of the mat, and will play with some of the pick-up and lift-off transitions like Bhujasana and Lolasana.
SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 5th
Change Your Perspective: Getting Upside Down
Fear is a natural part of the human experience. In this workshop, we explore our edges and learn tools to empower ourselves when fear arises as we turn our world upside down -- literally. We will break down the mechanics and the art behind safely building inverted postures like handstand, forearm balance and headstand.
This workshop is mostly asana; some partner work will be introduced.
For the Love of Pigeon: Happy Hips, Happy Shoulders, Happy You
Do you ride a bike? Or drive a car? Or use a computer? Or are you glued to your smart phone? Then this workshop is for you. In this two-hour asana practice, we dive right into the areas where most of us need the greatest amount of attention -- our hips and our shoulders. We will focus on opening the front body and strengthening the back body as we prepare for poses such as Natarajasana (Full Dancer's Pose) and the many variations of Eka Pada Rajakapotasana (Pigeon), and build towards Eka Pada Galavasana (Flying Pigeon).
